Pastor Peter Vreeland was promoted to glory on January 27, 2026, after a long battle with illness. He was tireless in his service to the Lord Jesus Christ. He served as a pastor and missionary for decades. His missionary work led him to Norway and then to Hungary. This is a brief testimony regarding his service in Hungary.
Pastor Vreeland arrived in Hungary with his wife Carole and his son Evan in 1991, where he was an educator, pastor and Bible teacher.

As an educator, in 1991, the year he and his family arrived in Hungary, Pastor Vreeland became an important part of the newly founded Greater Grace Christian Academy. In that very first year Pastor Vreeland along side the school’s founder Thierry Labarre, managed and led the school. He eventually became the principal and held that position until 2001 when he and his family relocated to the United States. Pastor Vreeland was responsible for much of the school’s development from the earliest years. His tireless work as part of the leadership team was key to the school’s growth from just 45 students the first year to nearly 200 when he left. What would we have done without them? Thank you Pastor Vreeland.
Under his co-leadership, the school grew rapidly, and a larger facility soon became necessary. The following year, the school moved into the Buda hills to Matyas Kiraly utca on the slopes of Janoshegy in the Normafa hills. It is here that GGIS experienced tremendous growth, finishing the 1992–1993 school year with more than 120 students. With Pastor Vreeland at the helm, the school reached a student population of 190 students in the year he and his wife left Hungary. He served the Lord in the school caring for people with a keen sense of his responsibility for every aspect of school life. It was under him that the people began saying about the school that "We are like a family around here."
A dedicated missionary to Hungary, when not serving the school, Pastor Vreeland served the Hungarian people. He was unwavering in his devotion to evangelism and Bible study, particularly in Székesfehérvár, where he planted a church that still exists today. His generous and caring heart touched countless lives. Regarded as a father figure by many young Hungarian believers, he led with love and compassion.
As a Bible teacher Pastor Vreeland taught many classes in the Central European Theological Academy. Through his teaching, he inspired and strengthened the faith of countless Bible college students who in turn went on to teach and serve others.
His legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those he influenced, leaving an indelible mark on the community he so dearly loved.
Pastor Peter Vreeland is survived by his wife, Carole, and his son, Evan.
